There was a time when people needed to be convinced of the value of search engine optimization (SEO). Now, any knowledgeable Web site producer makes sure SEO elements are included. After all, the art of manipulating one’s Web site to get better results in search engines has produced strong returns on investment.
Now comes social media. Participants use highly accessible and scalable Web sites – including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Digg and more - to share information through text, photos, audio and video. Wikipedia states ” Social media has become extremely popular because it allows people to connect in the online world to form relationships for personal, political and business use.”
From a business standpoint, when used correctly, participating in social media offers an opportunity to promote your brand, connect with your target audience, and to establish credibility. From an SEO standpoint, social media provides opportunities to draw qualified, interested individuals to a Web page. The backlinks into your Web site alone are enough to give you a boost in the search engines.
As social media continues to gain in use and popularity, I look forward to the time when Web clients not only ask for an SEO strategy, but a social media plan as well. Although participating in social media can be time consuming, I’ve seen good results in attracting the “right” traffic.
