Still thinking social media is the playground of college students and youngsters with too much time on their hands? Think again. Social media sites ( Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc.) are also used as sophisticated tools by businesses and social interest groups to get messages out to the public.
One example is a two-day protest in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia publicized on Facebook which drew 60 fasters and 800 online comments, the Christian Science Monitor reports. Although ignored by the government, the human rights activists claimed the hunger strike a success because of the wide attention it received on Facebook.
And, The International Herald Tribune proclaims President Elect Obama’s social networking was the real revolution. So if you’re still thinking social media is a fad, think again.
