This is the second post in a series of four detailing some Green Social Networks and what you can find on their sites. The first post focused on Lime.com, and this one will cover Care2.com.
Care2.com
According to their Web site, Care2.com is an online community dedicated to healthy and green living, human rights and animal welfare. Care2.com was started in 1998 by Randy Paynter, and currently has over 9 million members in their community section. Here are some of the many features you can find at Care2.com:
- People and Groups – Create and personalize a profile and connect with others in the online community. Join one of the 10,000 groups or create your own. You can even look for Mr./Mrs. Right in the Care2 Singles section!
- Shares - The Shares section is the place where you can create blogs, top ten lists, polls, send out a network message, have an online photo album, share recipes, and post tributes and activist alerts.
- Toolbar – Download the free Care2 toolbar for IE 5 or Firefox and get fast access to features on the Care2 Web site as well as search, weather information, and even a toolbar radio. Also for each day you use the Care2 toolbar, they will make a donation to save 25 square feet of Amazonian Rainforest.
- News – This section allows you to submit a news story, and bookmark stories of interest. There is also a section for topics regarding the upcoming US Election.
- Healthy & Green Living – Stories, tips and recipes for living a green and healthy lifestyle.
- E-cards – Send free e-cards for any occasion, and Care2 makes a donation to environmental nonprofit to save a square foot of rainforest. You can even create your own e-cards using photos you have uploaded to Care2.
My favorite feature – Take Action Section. Care2 makes it easy for you to get involved in the causes that matter most to you. With the take action section, you can sign petitions for causes, click to donate, and even create your own groups and petitions. There is also a beta volunteer network, that helps you find local places to donate your time, and the Care2 JobFinder, with the largest listing of jobs with socially responsible companies.
