I often hear from manufacturers that they do not need to sell there products online.  They’re right, of course.  They don’t NEED to. But they are missing the following points.

  • The internet provides an efficient way to sell and market goods.
  • There is a tremendous reduction in both personnel effort and time to fulfill an order when an e-commerce solution is employed.
  • Distributors, Reps, and consumers can order goods at any time of the day (or night).
  • Return on investment.  While there is of course the initial cost of building the application, it quickly pays for itself.
  • The system requires fewer staff members to maintain, less upkeep than a tradition brick and mortar facility, and marketing of the product can be done inexpensively and worldwide through online efforts, including search engine optimization, search engine marketing, online advertising and more.

So yeah, maybe manufacturers don’t need to sell online.  But it is definitely to their advantage to do so.
