Searchme is a visual search engine, currently in public beta, that lets you see your search engine results as pictures of web pages, rather than appearing in a list. As explained on their about page:
Searchme lets you see what you are searching for. As you start typing, categories appear that relate to your search query. Choose a category, and you will see pictures of web pages that answer your search. You can review these pages quickly to find just the information you are looking for, before you click through.
Once you type in a search query, Searchme returns with a visual representation of your search results, and also gives category options to narrow your results for improved relevance.
In addition to being able to see your search results, another unique feature is the ability to create stacks of search results. Once you have conducted a search, you can create a stack of results that you can modify and share. They have a list of different featured stacks, such as the Geek Wishlist and Top 80’s music videos, and also offer a stacks tutorial video on how to use the stacks feature.
Searchme has a few tools available as well, including a toolbar and browser search plugin for Firefox and IE, and a Searchme widget, that can be added to your blog or Web site. It also has a recently released a mobile version, being the first visual search engine available for mobile devices.
Although I like the ability to see before I click, and creating stacks is handy, I am looking forward to seeing improvements in the relevency of the search results. As an example, when you do a search for “Spinfield” the results come up with our old blog pages, not our new ones. Give it a try, let me know what you think!
