You’ve decided to add videos to your Web site to grab more traffic and entertain your readers with a variety of multimedia content.
Where do you start?
First you need to create a video – which duh, is a no-brainer. It’s important to remember who your audience is. You’re not creating a TV show, this is the Internet. Your viewers will most likely have a short attention span because they are constantly moving and choosing the content they want to interact with. Videos should be relatively short, about three to five minutes.
And, keep the video entertaining. Lets face it, nobody wants to watch a super-dry corporate video, like the kind McDonalds distributes for its employee training. (Trust me, I know. My first day at my first job when I was 15 was nothing but boring videos on how not to burn yourself on the grill and ten minutes of being trained on how to smile properly when you give a customer their fries etc.)
Once you have created your video you should name it something specific relating to the content. If you name it something generic like “video” chances are no one will be able to find it. Same goes for tags too.
Once you have your video ready to go you should start looking at places to distribute it. There is the obvious youtube, but there are many more sites out there to distribute videos such as:
Go to these sites, create multiple accounts and distribute your videos amongst them. That way you’ll have better chances of being viewed on multiple networks. It’s also a good idea at the end of your productions to list your Web site name in the final frame in your video.
Most videos, especially on a site like youtube, freeze on the last frame until you choose another video or navigate away from the page. Leave ‘em looking at your logo and Web address.

These are some good pointers on how to generate compelling video content. Marketers will also need to think about long term syndication strategy, so that they’re not taking hours out of every week to manage this effort. That’s where TubeMogul comes in very handy, featured in a recent Clicksharp white paper: http://www.clicksharpmarketing.com/blog/2008/07/27/small-business-guide-web-video-marketing-white-paper/
