When I think back to my many days in school (many, many years ago), a lot of the time was spent listening to somebody impart information. The Web has brought about a revolution in which that same type of information - training information - can be distributed in a marvelous way.

Here are the benefits.

1. Cost reduction is a big advantage of online training because:

• Trainers only have to present once, and it’s all recorded for future presentations.
• Travel time and expenses are cut, since individuals can participate at home or the office.
• Training materials are easily available online, cutting printing and mailing costs. It’s even possible to set up testing and/or question and answer capabilities.

2. Comprehension is a big advantage of online training because:

• Participants can watch as often as they like or need, creating better retention.
• Participants can download presentations to an iPod to re-watch or listen wherever they are.

3. Convenience is a big advantage of online video training because:

• The effective use of time; the ability to watch on demand; doesn’t interfere with other work assignments.

4. Continuity is a big advantage of online training because:

• It offers one cohesive message versus multiple trainers delivering different points.

5. Continual

• Ability to deliver advanced or additional training without scheduling “real” training sessions.

6. Clarification is a big advantage of online training because:

• Ability to, at any given time, to review or clarify missed topics.

7. Collaboration is a big advantage of online training because:

• Multiple trainers, department heads or subject matter experts can create and collaborate on the various topics from various locations to incorporate into one video.
