- A Cuil (cool) New Search Engine: A new search engine was launched today. It is called Cuil (pronounced “cool”) and supposedly “Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft”. The 3 founders of Cuil include 2 ex-Googlers and 1 former IBM employee. The founder of Altavista is also included on the team.
- What is a Knol? A knol is defined by Google as ‘a unit of knowledge’. The site is a place where anyone can share an article on their expertise. Google also describes a knol as “an authoritative article about a specific topic”. Here is some feedback from Danny Sullivan regarding Google’s Knol.
- Facebook and Microsoft: Facebook and Microsoft have reached a new deal to integrate Microsoft Live Search and paid search into the Facebook platform.
- End of the Yahoo! Takeover Saga? Yahoo! has announced a settlement with Carl Icahn pertaining to the recent drama. At their annual stockholder’s meeting on August 1, 8 directors will be re-elected by the shareholders. There are already many speculations of what will take place at this event.
- Yahoo! Accessibility Lab: Yahoo! has announced the opening of their Accessibility Lab. The lab will be a place where all the different Yahoo! employees can experience how people with disabilities navigate the Web. They hope to use the lab to teach people and at the same time improve their products to meet disability needs.
