On Tuesday Google launched the beta version of Lively, their new 3-D social networking virtual world, similar to Second Life. Google Lively is free, and a Google account and browser plug-in are necessary to start using Lively. Here is a Google Lively Video , showing a brief overview of the product.
With Lively, you create an avatar and room using provided templates, and are able to embed your room anywhere on the Web, such as a Facebook or MySpace profile, or Web site. You can also use your Google account avatar anywhere a Lively room is present, making Lively a distributed virtual world.
I am still experimenting with the new program, and will do a follow-up post once I have had more time to play around with it. If you have had a chance to use Lively, I would love to hear about your experience, so please comment. Also please add a link to your Lively room, so that I can stop by for a visit!
