Yahoo! Local News is now posting Flickr photos on its front page, that are geotagged to a local area. What does this mean for you and your business? Plenty, if you know how to properly market yourself through Flickr.
You may be wondering, what is so great about your pictures being posted on Yahoo! Local News? Considering Yahoo! News was voted the number 1 news site online in December, 2007 , one can only imagine the number of people looking at it once, if not several times, throughout the day. For a small company, this is one of the best ways to start marketing.
If you have properly set up your Flickr account to bring people back to your company’s Web site, most of the work is already done. Below are some simple steps from “How to Market on Flickr” written by Matt McGree , on how to make sure your Flickr account is set up correctly to best benefit you:
- Use your web site address as your Flickr screen name.
- Use your Flickr profile to advertise your company, products, services, etc.
- Upload quality photos of your products/services, and things related to your business.
- Write appropriate text for each photo, but avoid the hard sell.
- Find and join appropriate groups and share your photos in those groups.
- Link prominently from your web site to your Flickr photostream.
- Take part in the Flickr community.
For more information on how to make sure these steps are completed, and for other tips check out Matt McGee’s complete article based specifically on “How to Put Your Flickr Photos into Yahoo News.”
Now that you have your Flickr account set up, and you have it linked to your company’s Web site as much as possible, the next step is to geotag any of your pictures that would be appropriate to be seen on Yahoo! Local News, and that you would want tying back to your company. Geotagging will give the picture a location to tag back to , (i.e. Cleveland, Ohio) and gives it a chance to be on Yahoo! Local News’ specific location’s front page.
The more people who see your picture(s), and join groups you are a part of, the higher possibility they are going to connect to your company’s website .
