Here are some highlights from the search world:
- Compete released the latest Search Engine share stats, and Google hit a new high with 68.9% of the search engine share.
- Google is defending its rationale of a partnership with Yahoo. The deal is coming under anti-trust scrutiny, with some experts saying a deal will be good for both the companies and consumers, a co-opetition. Other experts say the deal would reduce competition as well as innovation in ad search technology.
- Yahoo! has opened up it’s SearchMonkey developer tool, and is offering a SearchMonkey developer challenge, with the winner getting $10,000. SearchMonkey is an open developer platform, where developers can build applications that enhance search results.
- Google opened Google Sites to everyone. Originally part of Google apps for companies and organizations, now anyone can create and share information for free with Google Sites.
- Microsoft is turning off Live Search Books and Live Search Academic this week, although the publications will still be present in search results.
