Here are some recent happenings around the web:
- In the continuing Microsoft and Yahoo saga analysts are predicting that Yahoo! will be making a deal with Microsoft this week, according to CNET. The prediction is based on several factors including the looming deadline imposed by Microsoft as well as the Yahoo Q1 2008 report due April 22.
- Cuill, a search startup founded by former Googlers, announced that it has received a second round of venture capital investing in the amount of $25 million.
- Google Earth’s KML file format is now the international standard for geographical content. The Open Geospatial Consortium announced that KML 2.2 has been accepted as the an official OGC standard.
- Google also announced the release of Google Earth 4.3 yesterday. Some features highlighted in the new release include street view inside Google Earth, imagery dates, new navigation controls, and flash support for MAC.
- Comscore released search engine rankings for March 2008. According to their findings, there was a 9% increase in overall core searches over February, and Americans conducted 10.8 billion core searches in March. All five core search engines experienced gains in search queries over the month, and Google experienced and increase in it’s share of the core searches, up to 59.8% from 59.2% last month.
